Firefly Valley Pottery FAQs

Summer Camp Questions:
-
When do tickets go on sale? Valentine’s Day every year, at 9am. Simply click the ticket and purchase. No login required.
-
Why is your camp more expensive than some others? Ceramics is an expensive field- glazes, clay, kilns are examples of materials that are expensive. Teachers at Firefly Valley are also paid Living Wage or above. (This is a model of teachers getting paid what they are worth, a goal that many feel passionately about in this country. Thanks for joining us as we reinvent this field!) Our ticket prices reflect a “mutual aid” model of pricing- your full price ticket partially supports another artist's scholarship. It also supports Ona in the community, as she travels around Asheville, providing ceramic education to over 700 youth a year at no cost to them. Firefly Valley Pottery is a woman-owned business, (not a non-profit, like the YMCA and Asheville Parks and Recreation Camps, for example) Her programs are not typically subsidized by grants- they are subitized by tuition. She is also a woman-owned local business and your support directly supports her family.
-
Who do you partner with for ceramic equity? OpenDoors of Asheville, the Horizons Program at Carolina Day, TAPAS Program and more partnerships are on the way each year.
-
Are there scholarships available? Yes! There is a scholarship button on the website and it’s open for submission year round- with the first round of awards ending on January 31st each year. But scholarships can be awarded after that if funds are available. Please know anyone is welcome to apply.
-
Are lunches or transportation provided? No, but our OpenDoors of Asheville participants have lunch delivered and transportation provided, check out their program!
-
Where are you located? We are located at 25 Central Ave West, Asheville, NC 28806. We are located in a home/backyard studio in West Asheville in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood across from the DMV on Patton/Smokey Park Highway.
