Service Description

This ticket is for families who have applied to the helper program for their camper ages 11 and up. Helpers must love being with younger children and being a mentor at camp. Helper application (found on Camp homepage) can be found here: http://bit.ly/4jNY5fq This week we’ll be focusing on pottery for gardens and learning about pollinators. We’ll be making planters, seed germination containers, as well as sculpted flowers, birds and insects out of clay. Location: Rainbow Community School, 574 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 Days and Times: June 8-12. Monday-Friday 10am-4:15pm (additional hours- 9am-10am and 4:15-5pm are available for purchase) Ages: 5-16 (ages 11 and up can apply to be a helper if desired- see Helper Application for more info) Daily Schedule: 9:45 am- Helpers arrive 10 am- Campers arrive, helpers help them complete AOK's (Acts of Kindness- for people or the earth) 10:30- 11:30am- Snack, Hand building pottery demonstration, class 11:30-12pm- Free play when finished as a group 12:00-1:00 Lunch and Read Aloud/Solo Peaceful Time 1:00-2:30- afternoon art activities (glazing projects from the morning, painting, sculpture, felting) water play, baking and individual pottery wheel throwing lessons- Helpers help campers glaze, lead cooking projects...) 2:30- snack and hydration ("cheers") time 3:00-3:45- Playground and helper hang out time 3:45- Closing Gratitude Circle 4:15-4:30- Prompt pick-up (Please remember that Patton/Haywood/I 40 are quite congested during this time, so plan accordingly.) Packing List: 2-3 activities to be shared with younger campers, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack if needed (many just finish their lunch) a full water bottle, swim clothes, towel, sun hat, and item for siesta- a rest time after lunch. Siesta items might include: a book, handwork like yarn for finger knitting, a coloring book/word search, puzzles. Nuts are permitted in lunches unless expressed differently in the welcome letter. Please leave at home: electronics, knives, candy, toys with batteries/screens/phones or smart watches please.
