HELPER Fall Wild Wednesdays w/ Ms. Megan

Service Description

This ticket is for a student ages 12+ who would like to join Wild Wednesday as a helper. Helpers have access to all the same pottery, fiber arts and cooking projects as regular students but assist with set-up and clean-up as well as being supportive to all the younger kids throughout the day. Examples of helper responsibilities include sitting with the younger students at lunch, helping them make friends, opening snacks and water bottles, etc. Please email Ona at onaarmstrong@gmail.com for approval before purchasing a helper ticket to make sure it's the right fit! Our Unique Curriculum: Welcome to Wild Wednesdays, a hands-on homeschool enrichment program where children learn through creativity, connection, and craft. Wild Wednesdays is a full-day pottery, art and cooking based program for ages 7 and up at Firefly Valley Pottery Studio in West Asheville, NC. This Fall we are focusing on the country of Iceland and will be doing our pottery, fiber arts and cooking through that lens. Each week, children work in three core areas: pottery, fiber arts, and cooking—offering a rich, sensory experience that supports fine motor skills, patience, problem-solving, and self-expression. Our typical day might look like learning about the native landscapes, handbuilding planters with local fuana with underglaze transfers in the morning, whisking up some traditional snacks and learning weaving in the afternoon. In pottery, kids explore hand-building techniques, developing a tactile relationship with clay while making everything from functional wares to imaginative sculptures. Participants will also have individual wheel throwing lessons (morning or afternoon) with an instructor. Our fiber arts sessions introduce children to the magic of textiles, from natural dyeing to basic weaving, sewing, or knitting. Whatever textile practice fits in our cultural study theme of the semester! These activities foster focus and creativity while connecting kids to traditional handmade practices. In cooking, students engage in hands-on food preparation using wholesome ingredients inspired by the country we are studying. Our unique environment: This will be almost entirely outdoors, with an indoor studio space available in colder/wet weather or lightening/high winds. We have a 500 square foot outdoor art pavilion that is covered for rain and sun. Oscar is our friendly, 22 lb hypoallergenic therapy dog that lives at Firefly Valley and is off leash, sniffing around the property.
