About the event

Are you yearning for some "me time" in a creative environment in 2024? Absolute beginners, artists with past  "failed" throwing experiences are especially welcomed, as well as seasoned throwers on the pottery wheel. You will be encouraged to get creative and build confidence in your abilities. We will start each class with a poem, deep breathing to relax into the creative process of clay. This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded creatives, share some laughs and get messy! Artists will receive demonstrations at the beginning of each class and hands on guidance while they create their own works of art inspired by their Pintrest dreams!

Throwing pottery on the wheel requires patience and practice so we will focus on vital elements such as centering, posture, pressure, proper use of tools, water, and wheel speed. We will learn how to throw cups, mugs with handles, bowls, plates and more. During the last 15 minutes of class, each potter is expected to help clean their wheel and tools. This adult class includes 6 hours a week of studio time on your own schedule!

Seven weeks of this course will be dedicated to throwing on the wheel,  trimming, and well as attaching handles or texture. We ensure all pieces are thoroughly dried before entering the kiln for a bisque fire. Our seventh class will be focused on glazing, which is the process of adding color and food safe gloss over their pottery. Their pieces will then be fired a second time in the kiln before they are ready to go home. We invite families and friends to attend the last part of our eighth class for our art show where we display each potter’s work and celebrate their accomplishments.   Potters will be encouraged to cut long nails for throwing, use hair ties for long hair and bring photos of work they find inspirational. We are so excited to get creative with your artists!
